A Guide to Your Wedding Photography Experience

Michigan Wedding Photographer | Allison Brooke Photography

Choosing a wedding photographer is about more than beautiful images — it’s about trust, comfort, and feeling supported on one of the most meaningful days of your life.

As a Michigan wedding photographer, my goal is to create a photography experience that feels calm, intentional, and completely centered around you. From our first conversation to your wedding day and the final gallery, I want you to feel confident, cared for, and genuinely excited — never overwhelmed.

This guide walks you through what it’s like working with me, how I approach wedding days, and how I help couples create a wedding experience that reflects their priorities, personalities, and vision.

My Approach to Wedding Photography

Every couple and every wedding day is different, which is why I take a personalized approach to wedding photography. I don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all formula — your photos should feel like you.

My photography style is a blend of:

  • Guided, natural posing to help you feel comfortable and confident
  • Laid-back, documentary-style candids that capture real moments and emotions as they unfold

If you’re worried about feeling awkward or “not photogenic,” you’re not alone. Most of my couples feel this way at first. I guide you throughout the day with gentle direction and natural prompts so nothing ever feels stiff or overly posed. The result is a collection of images that feel authentic, flattering, and timeless.

More Than a Photographer — A Supportive Presence

On your wedding day, I’m there as more than just a photographer — I’m a calm, supportive presence focused on helping the day run smoothly.

That often looks like:

  • Pinning veils, adjusting dresses, and fixing small details
  • Keeping portraits organized and efficient without feeling rushed
  • Offering reassurance when nerves set in
  • Making real-time adjustments when the timeline shifts

Weddings rarely run exactly on schedule, and that’s okay. I’m experienced in navigating those changes while keeping things stress-free so you can stay present and enjoy your day.

One of my favorite parts of weddings is getting to meet new people and sharing in the joy, love, and energy of the day — including the beautiful chaos. My goal is to take pressure off you, not add to it.

Timeline Support That Reflects Your Priorities

If photography is important to you, your timeline plays a huge role in how your day feels and how your photos turn out.

I help couples create timelines that feel:

  • Realistic
  • Relaxed
  • Intentional

Because I know how long each part of the day typically takes — from getting ready to portraits to family photos — I can help you plan a flow that feels unhurried and enjoyable.

Just as importantly, your timeline should reflect your priorities.

If there are traditions or photo moments you don’t care as much about, and you’d rather spend that time enjoying cocktail hour, being with your guests, or soaking everything in, then that’s exactly what we’ll plan for. There is no “right” way to structure a wedding day — only what feels right to you.

I also create an organized family photo plan ahead of time so that portion of the day feels efficient and low-stress, even with larger or blended families.

Collaboration & Your Vision

I love collaborating with couples and hearing what matters most to them. Some couples come with detailed Pinterest boards, while others just have a general feeling or vibe they’re drawn to — both are perfect.

You’re always welcome to share:

  • Must-have moments or images
  • Pinterest boards or saved inspiration
  • Family dynamics or concerns
  • Any worries about being photographed

My role is never to impose my own vision, but to execute yours while guiding you with experience and care.
